How do I survive my divorce when I am losing my best friend as well?
My ex and I were high school sweet hearts and we have been together for what would have been 11 years…We have two beautiful kids together and at one point in time he was the only true friend that I had. He decided to get a divorce because he felt that he hasn’t “experienced” life because we got together so young… These last few years have been rough…I guess you could say that we both are not the same people. I am trying my hardest to be civil and still do the family thing for our kids, but its been hell!!
There’s no easy way around this. It’s one day and sometimes one minute at a time. Focus on you and your children. There has to be things you always wanted to learn but didn’t. Over the holidays, focus on fun, fun, fun! Learn how to ice skate, ski, go sledding. If you can, rent a cabin and celebrate Christmas there. Be adventurous! You have to start a new life for your self. The sooner the better. Believe me, your X will be humbled by your strength. Along the way, you will meet new interesting people who will become your new friends. Stop crying, pick your self up off the floor and get moving! Think positive! Join an exercise group, research favorite topics, and get involved in life. That’s what I did and I learned things about myself and will always cherish the strength I never knew I had.
